Why osmium in jewelry?
Osmium is one of the most challenging precious metals to work with in jewelry production. Unlike gold or silver, which can be cast into shape, osmium's extremely high melting point — above 3,000°C — makes traditional casting virtually impossible. Instead, osmium is either pressed into the desired form or grown as crystals during the CVT crystallisation process and then cut and set by hand.
This processing complexity is part of what makes osmium jewelry so exclusive. Each piece requires specialised goldsmith expertise that few workshops in the world can provide. The result is jewelry with properties no other precious metal can match: a distinctive blue-silver shimmer, a surface hardness that resists scratches, and a crystal structure so unique it serves as a natural fingerprint — no two osmium pieces are identical.
All osmium used in our jewelry is certified with a purity of over 99.9% and accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
At MetaMetals, we work with osmium in two forms: crystallized osmium, where naturally grown crystals are cut and set as centrepieces in rings, earrings, necklaces, and bracelets; and sintered osmium bars, which are pressed into precise shapes and set in platinum chain designs. Both forms are available as finished jewelry pieces or can be customised in collaboration with our partner goldsmiths.
